The St. Louis Blues got their start in 1967 as an expansion team, along with five other franchises that entered the NHL that year. They wasted no time in establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with. The fledgling team made the Stanley Cup Finals in each of their first three seasons, but failed to win the championship on all three tries, losing to the Montreal Canadiens (1968 and 1969), and the Boston Bruins in 1970. Things slowed down a little for the team in the next decade, but St. Louis Blues jerseys were still a frequent sight in the NHL playoffs.
Despite three division titles in the '80s, the Blues kept falling short in the playoffs. They had to wait until 2019 for their next appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals. On that occasion, the team would not be denied— as they beat the Boston Bruins in seven games to become the last active 1967 expansion team to win the biggest prize in pro hockey.
