The Los Angeles Kings have had their highs and lows over the years, but it’s rarely a dull night when this team takes the ice. They were one of six teams—and one of two in California—to join the NHL in the 1967 expansion. The new franchise made the playoffs in their very first season, and over the next few decades they were a frequent presence in the NHL playoffs, although—frustratingly—they tended to get eliminated early. On April 10, 1982, the Kings upset the powerhouse Edmonton Oilers 6-5 in an amazing come-from-behind victory that would become renowned as the Miracle on Manchester.
